Facebook Page Commentary
Facebook Strategy
Shortly after creating this blog, I created a Facebook page in an attempt to promote my blog posts and keep a readership. This is the first time I have used Facebook in this manner and it has been very interesting and yet challenging. The biggest difference was the way I spoke and addressed my audience. There were quite a few times when I stopped myself from posting and changed the wording because it was not the voice I wanted to communicate to my audience. One thing I learned was that people were more interested in posts that consisted of pictures of things I had done with a slight explanation of what the pictures were. I did post some links to new things I would be doing or things they could try but these posts did not get as many views or likes. Reflecting on my Facebook page now, I would have liked to be more scheduled in my postings. I think the manner in which I posted were very random. I would have liked to maybe have one post every few days in a more consistent patterns rather then the high low pattern I posted in. I'd also try to use this more area to create more open conversation with my readers. Facebook is a good way to communicate across distances. It would be nice to post questions or have readers post questions or comments to the page for response. Overall, it was an enlightening experience to use Facebook in that manner and it was exciting to see more and more people at least viewing my posts.
Facebook Commentary
Through my Facebook page I attempted to engage my audience through short snip bits into some of new things that I have tried, whether they were connected to a blog post of not. My hope was to engage with a picture and briefly written content as that makes it easy to look over and read. As I got the hang of using this Facebook page, I began to post more frequently and my posts got more views. Short and concise posts reach further and can draw an audience to not only my Facebook page but eventually my niche blog. In posting new things I was trying, I wanted my readers to see how easy it is to step out of your comfort zone or simply do something you have never done before. In seeing the ease and some interesting end results, my readers would not only want to see more but also possibly find inspiration to try it out for themselves.
In response to the "Why People Like, Share and Comment on Facebook" article, I feel that increase in views and even likes on some of my posts affirm that my readers were interested enough to like the post. I think, as spoken to in the article, my readers were liking and commenting to provide positive feedback. Comments on posts have been speaking to being inspired or finding something that was done cool, and a possible option to try. Other comments on posts were questions, asking for more information which suggests that my audience cared about the content and wanted more information. I also attempt to weave some humor throughout my posts that spoke to how little experience I had in each activity. This provoke some empathy or places of relevance in my readers, encouraging a like.
I feel that my posts do have a human touch to them as they are human experience, whether success or failure. People are seeing me try new things from as intense as motorcycle rides to as simple as mickey waffles. It is only human to understand how I may not have had made shaped waffles before. My posting was frequent but inconsistent. As noted above, I feel i posted in a high-low pattern but also noticed that when I was posting almost every day, my posts got more views and more likes. Though some posts spurred short conversation, it was mostly a response to a question comment. It was interesting being able to spark conversation based on a picture or short experience description. I think I would want to pose more questions or over time, consider what my readers enjoy seeing and tailor some to my audience.
